Saw Light Round SOLD

This piece, part of the Enlightened Series, sees the hand cut spring steel, originally used in the form work of concrete rotary milking tables, repurposed as a frame for wood. The Jarrah railway sleeper base forms a cradle for the steel saw round.

Bark, Saw Light SOLD

Elements:

• Base - ‘V’ best pulley from vintage compressor.
• Handles - shaped from first cut of logs felled and milled in Naseby, Central Otago.
• Blade - hand cut from spring steel originally used in the form work of concrete, rotary milking tables. Initially inspired by a piece of flat steel that suggested the shape of a pioneer crosscut logging saw.
• Saw teeth - painstakingly cut by hand - now create beautiful shadows when illuminated.

The bar handle is anchored to a vintage compressor pulley, that connects the tool of our early forebears to the base of early engineering.

Split-light SOLD

Elements: Copper, Totara, Cast Iron and Brass.

The genesis for this pairing started with a ball-cock, discovered alongside a vintage water tank. Cut in half, they made perfectly proportioned surrounds for the next pairing; Ransom & Marles bearing blocks originating in a steelworks in England. These bearing clocks were found on a saw blade shaft - and were reunited to form a pair of book lamps.
These pieces of English engineering are anchored by two solid pieces of NZ Totara. Collectively, they provide a warm, inviting red blow, tribute to the deep crimson of stained Totary.

The central focus of this piece is the cast iron lung pump discovered at the Dunedin Medical School. Its practical use is repurposed alongside recycled brass and copper coil. The combination of these seemingly disparate objects combines to create an ethereal look when illuminated.

Pisces Electrum - Fish Of Shining Light $900

Elements: Steel band saw and vintage agricultural shedder.

Backed by an old band saw blade, this antique shedder board off a vintage Massey Ferguson harvester was unearthed from a pile of discarded farming machinery on a farm in South Canterbury. With its wooden ‘fins’ and tapered tail, this piece of agricultural history takes on an evocative marine look when illuminated.

Steel Sisters $1200

Hand cut spring steel blades, originally used in the form work of concrete, rotary milking tables, their saw teeth painstakingly cut by hand - create beautiful shadows as these two dramatic pieces sway on their solid steel bases. Their sensual silhouettes anchor illuminated faces to provide a pair of standard lights that together, provide a unified salute to engineered light.

Port Light 1 SOLD

Elements: Heart Rimu and Vintage cast iron Impeller housing.

The focus of this piece of functional art had humble beginnings as the impeller housing from a wood chip extractor. Now restored, polished and repurposed as a statement table, lamp, the shape reflects the elegant lines of a nautical light.

The foundation piece for this light is the impeller housing from a wood chip extractor. Polished, and mounted onto solid steel braces with copper flanges and a central piece of polished Totara.

Engineered Light 1 SOLD

This 1960’s brass foot-pump provided the an almost comedic base to this early engineers lamp; its swivelling head and sprung base provide an almost human aspect to this practical piece of table art.

Engineered Light 2 SOLD

This beautiful old Black n’ Decker #20 Drill Press, so beautiful in its form and original functionality combines with old-world steel oil filter casing to form the base of this dramatic table lamp. The elongated draftsman’s lamp head combines to give this piece a highly engineered feel, with a functional twist.

Locomotive Side Table $3200

I let the beautiful lines of this pre 1950's McPherson water pump guide me in creating a base with a slight forward locomotion.  The nautical patina of the inside and outside of a 1960's hot water cylinder is reflected in the checker board top.

Saw Lamp #5 $2,100

Elements: Steel, Iron, Brass

The body of this illuminated and over-sized standard lamp is hand cut spring steel.  This forms the heart shape of this piece.  Anchored by a gear wheel from an old freezing works chain drive, this piece is domed with a reused brass shade.
